Electrician Degree, Certificate and Diploma Options

Nuiqsut AK electrician on power line poleThere are multiple approaches to get electrician instruction in a technical or vocational school near Nuiqsut AK. You can choose a certificate or diploma program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are available at some schools, but are not as prevalent as the first three options. Frequently these programs are offered in conjunction with an apprenticeship, which are mandated by most states to become licensed or if you want to become certified. Following are short summaries of the 3 most typical programs offered.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are usually provided by Alaska technical and trade schools and require approximately a year to finish. They provide a solid foundation and are aimed towards individuals who would like to enter an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees take 2 years to finish and are offered by Alaska community colleges, usually as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They offer a more extensive education while supplying the foundation that readies students to begin their apprenticeship program.

As previously mentioned, Bachelor’s Degree programs are offered at certain Alaska colleges, but are less popular at four years than the other briefer programs. Most states mandate that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and more typically four years be completed prior to licensing. Therefore, the majority of students are eager to start their paid apprenticeship, especially if it’s not a component of their academic program.
