Electrician Degree, Certificate and Diploma Options

Cash AR electrician on power line poleThere are several approaches to get electrician instruction in a trade or technical school near Cash AR. You can choose a diploma or certificate program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at some schools, but are not as prevalent as the other three options. Frequently these programs are offered together with an apprenticeship, which are mandated by the majority of states in order to become licensed or if you intend to earn certification. Following are brief explanations of the 3 most typical programs offered.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are generally provided by Arkansas trade and technical schools and take about a year to complete. They furnish a solid foundation and are aimed towards individuals who want to get into an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees require two years to finish and are offered by Arkansas junior or community colleges, usually as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They provide a more well-rounded education while providing the foundation that prepares students to join their apprenticeship program.

As earlier stated, Bachelor’s Degree programs are offered at some Arkansas colleges, but are less preferred at 4 years than the other shorter programs. Many states mandate that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and in most cases 4 years be performed before licensing. Because of that, many students are eager to commence their paid apprenticeship, especially if it’s not a component of their educational program.

Receiving certification is also a voluntary way for an electrician to distinguish him or herself as a experienced and skilled professional. The certifications available differ by state and can be acquired in various specialties, such as cable splicing as an example. • Passing a written exam
  • Passing a practical exam
