Electrician Certificate, Diploma and Degree Options

Selfridge ND electrician on power line poleThere are multiple options to get electrician instruction in a trade or technical school near Selfridge ND. You can enroll in a certificate or diploma program, or earn an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are offered at certain schools, but are not as prevalent as the first three options. In many cases these programs are made available combined with an apprenticeship, which are required by most states to become licensed or if you wish to become certified. Following are brief explanations of the 3 most prevalent programs available.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are generally provided by North Dakota technical and trade schools and take approximately a year to complete. They furnish a solid foundation and are geared towards individuals who would like to get into an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees take 2 years to complete and are offered by North Dakota community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They provide a more comprehensive education while supplying the foundation that prepares students to begin their apprenticeship program.

As previously stated, Bachelor’s Degrees are accessible at certain North Dakota colleges, but are less preferred at four years than the other briefer programs. The majority of states require that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and more typically 4 years be carried out before licensing. For that reason, most students are eager to start their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not a component of their educational program.
