Electrician Degree, Certificate and Diploma Options

Waynesboro TN electrician on power line poleThere are three general options to get electrician training in a technical or vocational school near Waynesboro TN. You may enroll in a diploma or certificate program, or obtain an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are offered at a few schools, but are not as common as the first three options. Often these programs are made available combined with an apprenticeship program, which are required by the majority of states in order to become licensed or if you want to become certified. Bellow are brief descriptions of the 3 most prevalent programs available.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are generally provided by Tennessee technical and trade schools and require about a year to finish. They furnish a solid foundation and are geared towards students who want to enter an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees take 2 years to complete and are provided by Tennessee junior or community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more comprehensive education while supplying the foundation that readies students to enter into their apprenticeship program.

As earlier stated, Bachelor’s Degree programs are offered at certain Tennessee colleges, but are less popular at four years than the other briefer programs. Many states require that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and more typically four years be carried out prior to licensing. Because of that, most students are eager to start their paid apprenticeship, especially if it’s not part of their academic program.
