Electrician Degree, Certificate and Diploma Options

Lyons KS electrician on power line poleThere are three general approaches to obtain electrician training in a technical or vocational school near Lyons KS. You may choose a diploma or certificate program, or earn an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are available at some schools, but are not as prevalent as the other three alternatives. Often these programs are made available in conjunction with an apprenticeship program, which are required by the majority of states to become licensed or if you intend to earn certification. Following are brief descriptions of the 3 most prevalent programs offered.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are usually offered by Kansas vocational and trade schools and require about a year to complete. They provide a solid foundation and are geared towards students who would like to get into an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs involve 2 years to complete and are offered by Kansas community colleges, typically as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more extensive education while supplying the foundation that readies students to enter into their apprenticeship program.

As earlier mentioned, Bachelor’s Degree programs are accessible at some Kansas colleges, but are less favored at four years than the other shorter programs. The majority of states require that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and more typically 4 years be completed before licensing. If not, ask a local Lyons KS electrical company if they can give you some tips. Additionally bear in mind that unless you are able to move, the school must be within commuting distance of your Lyons residence.
