Electrician Degree, Diploma and Certificate Programs

Avoca MN electrician on power line poleThere are multiple options to receive electrician instruction in a trade or technical school near Avoca MN. You may select a diploma or certificate program, or obtain an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are offered at some schools, but are not as common as the other three options. Often these programs are made available in conjunction with an apprenticeship, which are required by most states in order to become licensed or if you would like to become certified. Bellow are short descriptions of the 3 most typical programs offered.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are generally provided by Minnesota trade and technical schools and take about a year to complete. They furnish a solid foundation and are geared towards those who want to enter an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees take two years to finish and are offered by Minnesota junior or community colleges, typically as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They offer a more extensive education while providing the foundation that prepares students to join their apprenticeship program.

As earlier mentioned, Bachelor’s Degree programs are accessible at some Minnesota institutions, but are less favored at four years than the other shorter programs. Many states mandate that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and more typically four years be carried out before licensing. Because of that, many students are anxious to begin their paid apprenticeship, especially if it’s not a component of their educational program.
