Electrician Degree, Diploma and Certificate Programs

Sturgeon Lake MN electrician on power line poleThere are three general options to receive electrician instruction in a trade or technical school near Sturgeon Lake MN. You can choose a certificate or diploma program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are offered at some schools, but are not as prevalent as the other three options. Frequently these programs are offered combined with an apprenticeship program, which are required by most states in order to be licensed or if you would like to become certified. Bellow are brief summaries of the 3 most typical programs available.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are usually offered by Minnesota vocational and trade schools and take approximately a year to finish. They provide a good foundation and are aimed towards students who want to get into an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs require 2 years to finish and are provided by Minnesota junior or community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They provide a more comprehensive education while supplying the foundation that prepares students to enter into their apprenticeship program.

As previously mentioned, Bachelor’s Degrees are accessible at some Minnesota institutions, but are less popular at four years than the other briefer programs. Most states require that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and more typically four years be performed before licensing. For that reason, many students are eager to commence their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not a component of their educational program.
