Electrician Certificate, Diploma and Degree Programs

Ryegate MT electrician on power line poleThere are three general ways to obtain electrician instruction in a technical or vocational school near Ryegate MT. You may enroll in a diploma or certificate program, or obtain an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are offered at some schools, but are not as common as the first three options. In many cases these programs are made available together with an apprenticeship program, which are mandated by the majority of states in order to become licensed or if you intend to become certified. Bellow are brief explanations of the three most common programs available.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are generally provided by Montana vocational and trade schools and take approximately a year to finish. They furnish a good foundation and are aimed towards those who wish to join an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs take 2 years to complete and are provided by Montana junior or community colleges, usually as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more well-rounded education while providing the foundation that readies students to enter into their apprenticeship program.

As earlier mentioned, Bachelor’s Degrees are accessible at some Montana institutions, but are less preferred at 4 years than the other briefer programs. The majority of states mandate that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and more typically four years be carried out prior to licensing. Therefore, many students are anxious to begin their paid apprenticeship, especially if it’s not part of their academic program.

Obtaining certification is also an optional way for an electrician to identify him or herself as a experienced and skilled professional.
