Electrician Certificate, Diploma and Degree Programs

Guadalupe NM electrician on power line poleThere are multiple ways to obtain electrician training in a technical or vocational school near Guadalupe NM. You can select a diploma or certificate program, or earn an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are available at a few schools, but are not as common as the other three alternatives. Frequently these programs are made available in conjunction with an apprenticeship program, which are mandated by most states in order to become licensed or if you wish to become certified. Bellow are brief summaries of the three most typical programs available.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are typically offered by New Mexico technical and trade schools and take approximately a year to complete. They provide a solid foundation and are geared towards students who want to get into an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs involve 2 years to finish and are offered by New Mexico community colleges, typically as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They offer a more comprehensive education while providing the foundation that readies students to begin their apprenticeship program.

As earlier mentioned, Bachelor’s Degree programs are accessible at certain New Mexico colleges, but are less preferred at 4 years than the other briefer programs. Most states require that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and more typically 4 years be carried out before licensing. For that reason, the majority of students are eager to commence their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not a component of their academic program.

Obtaining certification is also an optional way for an electrician to identify him or herself as a skilled and experienced professional. The certifications offered vary by state and may be acquired in numerous specializations, such as cable splicing as an example. Talk to some of the students and get their opinions relating to class sizes and instruction. Last, talk to a few of the instructors and find out what their level of expertise is and what degrees or certifications they hold.
