But with so many vocational schools to pick from, just how do you go about making certain that you enroll in the ideal one? Particularly since there are a number of variables to evaluate. For example, some prospective students will start by searching for schools that are close to their home. When they have located some that are within driving range, they will choose the one with the least expensive tuition. Although location and cost are significant, they are not the sole things that need to be examined. Also critical are the reputations of the schools, their accreditation, along with their graduation and job placement rates. Electrician Degree, Diploma and Certificate Programs

Bushkill PA electrician on power line poleThere are several options to obtain electrician training in a trade or technical school near Bushkill PA. You may select a diploma or certificate program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are offered at a few schools, but are not as prevalent as the other three options. In many cases these programs are offered together with an apprenticeship, which are required by the majority of states to be licensed or if you wish to become certified. Following are short summaries of the 3 most typical programs available.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are usually provided by Pennsylvania trade and technical schools and take approximately a year to finish. They furnish a solid foundation and are aimed towards those who would like to join an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs require two years to finish and are offered by Pennsylvania junior or community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They provide a more well-rounded education while supplying the foundation that prepares students to begin their apprenticeship program.

As earlier mentioned, Bachelor’s Degrees are available at certain Pennsylvania colleges, but are less popular at four years than the other shorter programs. The majority of states require that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and more typically 4 years be performed before licensing. Because of that, many students are eager to begin their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not a component of their academic program.

Electrician License and Certification Guidelines

Bushkill PA electrician wiring boxElectricians in Bushkill PA can carry out a multitude of duties, such as testing, installing and replacing electrical systems, and ensuring that the wiring in houses and buildings comply with code standards. After concluding an apprenticeship, journeyman electricians are required to be licensed in the majority of municipalities and states. The period of apprenticeship varies by state, but normally about 4 to 5 years of experience is needed before taking the licensing examination. The exams usually assess general knowledge and electrical theory, in addition to knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Receiving certification is also an optional means for an electrician to distinguish him or herself as a skilled and experienced professional. The certifications available vary by state and can be acquired in several specialties, such as cable splicing as an example. The certification process in most cases includes 3 levels of competency:

  • An experience requirement
  • Passing a written exam
  • Passing a practical exam

Examples of certifying agencies include the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) along with the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET). It’s crucial that the electrician tech school that you enroll in not only furnishes a solid educational foundation, but also helps ready you for passing any licensing and certification exams that you might be required to pass in the future.

But since the balance of the classes may be accessed online, distance learning might be a more practical alternative for students that have limited time for schooling. And as an added benefit many online training programs have a cheaper tuition cost compared to their on-campus competitors. Driving expenses from Bushkill PA are also lessened and some of the study materials may be accessed online as well. All of these advantages can make online electrician trade schools more affordable and convenient. And many are fully accredited, which we will cover in our due diligence checklist.

What to Ask Electrician Trade Schools

Questions to ask Bushkill PA electrician schoolsOnce you have decided to earn a certificate, diploma or degree, you can begin to focus your training options. Because there are so many electrician vocational and trade schools in the Bushkill PA region, it’s essential to have a checklist of criteria that each program must satisfy. The first 2 that we talked about were location and tuition expense. If you have an interest in earning an online degree, then that needs to be an option that your chosen school offers. And while all three qualifiers may be crucial when making your selection, there are additional factors that must be considered also. Below is a checklist of those additional qualifiers that you will need to assess before selecting an electrical trade school.

Accreditation.  A large number of electrician technical schools have received either a regional or a national accreditation. They may acquire Institutional Accreditation, which focuses on the school’s programs overall, or Programmatic Accreditation, which pertains to an individual program, for instance electrical technology. Make sure that the Bushkill PA school is accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting organization, which includes the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Along with helping make certain that you acquire a quality education, it can assist in obtaining financial aid or student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited schools. Additionally, some states require that the electrician training course be accredited in order to be approved for licensing.

High Completion and Placement Rates.  Ask the electrician schools you are reviewing what their completion rates are. The completion rate is the portion or percentage of students who enroll in and complete the course. A lower completion rate may signify that students were dissatisfied with the program and quit. It may also indicate that the instructors were not competent to train the students. It’s also important that the schools have higher job placement rates. Older and/or more reputable schools may have a broader directory of graduates, which may mean more contacts for the school to employ for their apprenticeship and job placement programs. A high job placement rate can not only validate that the school has an excellent reputation within the trade, but additionally that it has the network of contacts to assist Bushkill PA grads obtain apprenticeships or jobs.

Apprenticeship Programs.  Numerous electrician technical programs are taught in conjunction with an apprenticeship or an internship program. Those participating trade and technical schools will help place you in an apprenticeship program within their network of electrical companies or labor unions. Check if the schools you are considering have working partnerships with Bushkill PA area electricians or electrical contractors. An apprenticeship not only provides a valuable experience by furnishing practical training, but it also supplies employment opportunities and helps to establish relationships in the area electrician professional community.

Modern Facilities.  Make certain that the campus facilities and the equipment that you will be instructed on are up-to-date and what you will be working with on the job. If you are already in an internship or an apprenticeship, talk to the electrical specialist you are working with regarding what you should be expecting. Otherwise, ask a local Bushkill PA electrical contractor if they can give you some tips. Additionally keep in mind that unless you can relocate, the school must be within driving distance of your Bushkill home. Remember that if you decide to enroll in an out-of-state school, besides the added moving costs there might be increased tuition fees compared to in-state residents.

Smaller Classes.   It’s important that you get as much personalized instruction as possible, which can be challenging in larger classes. Ask if you can monitor a few of the classes so that you can see how large they are and witness first hand the interaction between instructors and students. Speak with some of the students and get their feedback concerning class sizes and instruction. Last, speak to some of the teachers and learn what their level of expertise is and what certifications or degrees they have earned.

Flexible Scheduling.  Verify that the class schedules for the schools you are reviewing are flexible enough to meet your needs. If you can only go to classes in the evening or on weekends near Bushkill PA, check that the schools you are reviewing offer those options. If you can only attend on a part-time basis, be sure that the school you select offers part-time enrollment. Finally, find out what the protocol is to make-up classes should you miss any because of work, sickness or family issues.

    Bushkill Falls

Bushkill Falls is a series of eight privately owned waterfalls, the tallest of which cascades over 100 feet (30 m), located in Northeast Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains in the United States. Beginning at the headwaters of the Little Bush Kill, the water descends the mountain, toward the Delaware River, forming Bushkill Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Bridesmaid Falls, Laurel Glen Falls, Pennell Falls, and three additional, unnamed falls.[1]

The main falls, named Bushkill Falls, and the main canyon area are accessible via boardwalk and stairs. Outside of the main canyon area the trails are mostly dirt and stone, with boardwalks and bridges in certain areas.

On August 13, 2011, one person died after falling 150 feet (46 m) into the falls. Two teenage boys walked off marked trails and one of the boys lost his footing and fell into the falls. He was pronounced dead on the scene.[4]
