Electrician Diploma, Certificate and Degree Programs

Wallaceton PA electrician on power line poleThere are multiple ways to get electrician training in a vocational or trade school near Wallaceton PA. You can choose a diploma or certificate program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at certain schools, but are not as common as the first three alternatives. Frequently these programs are offered combined with an apprenticeship program, which are required by the majority of states in order to be licensed or if you intend to become certified. Following are short summaries of the 3 most common programs offered.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are typically provided by Pennsylvania trade and technical schools and require about a year to finish. They furnish a good foundation and are aimed towards those who would like to join an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs involve 2 years to finish and are provided by Pennsylvania junior or community colleges, typically as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They offer a more well-rounded education while supplying the foundation that readies students to join their apprenticeship program.

As earlier mentioned, Bachelor’s Degree programs are offered at some Pennsylvania colleges, but are less preferred at 4 years than the other shorter programs. The majority of states require that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and in most cases four years be completed before licensing. For that reason, most students are anxious to start their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not part of their educational program.
