Indian Mound TN electrician on power line poleThere are multiple approaches to receive electrician training in a trade or technical school near Indian Mound TN. You can enroll in a diploma or certificate program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at certain schools, but are not as common as the other three alternatives. Often these programs are made available in conjunction with an apprenticeship, which are required by most states in order to become licensed or if you would like to become certified. Bellow are short summaries of the 3 most common programs available.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are usually offered by Tennessee vocational and trade schools and take approximately a year to complete. They provide a solid foundation and are geared towards students who want to join an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs require 2 years to complete and are offered by Tennessee community colleges, typically as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more comprehensive education while supplying the foundation that readies students to begin their apprenticeship program.

As previously mentioned, Bachelor’s Degree programs are available at certain Tennessee institutions, but are less popular at four years than the other shorter programs. Many states mandate that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and in most cases four years be completed prior to licensing. For that reason, most students are anxious to begin their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not part of their educational program.

Receiving certification is also a voluntary way for an electrician to differentiate her or himself as a experienced and skilled professional. The certifications available differ by state and may be acquired in several specialties, such as cable splicing as an example.
